Wins of Fortune is a pretty popular mobile video slot from Quickspin that was released around three years ago – and it proved so popular that the game developer decided to release a follow up called Wild Chase: Tokyo Go.

Wild Chase: Tokyo Go combines characters and the theme from “The WIld Chase” and brings them into the same game engine as Wins of Fortune – and this makes for quite an exciting slot, with lots going on during every spin and some pretty decent win-potential, especially during the bonus round.

When it comes to stake options, Quickspin has chosen to allow you to wager as little as 0.20 credits per spin and as much as 100. This should suit the vast majority of players, and those on all types of budget will find themselves able to enjoy Wild Chase: Tokyo Go.

The game also has a really unique layout; the two leftmost reels have just two symbols, and weach reel to the right-hand-side of these increases by two symbols in height – with the far-right reel having the most symbols. I’ll talk more about this – and how it works, in terms of the increasing rows mechanic – later in this Wild Chase: Tokyo Go slot review. To kick things off, let’s take a look at how to actually play the slot, and what you need to know in order to get started!

How To Play

It couldn’t be easier to play Wild Chase: Tokyo Go, and like all of Quickspin’s games it’s super-simple to select the amount of money you want to wager on each spin. This can be done through the bet-size menu. Once you’re happy with the stake size, you simply need to hit the big spin button – and the game will begin to play out automatically!

I also want to point out two Quickspin mechanics; first, you’ve got the autoplay function, allowing you to set up to 100 spins to play-out automatically. Then, there’s also the quickspin feature, which is like a turbo-mode function. This decreases the time it takes for each spin to complete.

Symbols and Payouts

Like most Quickspin slots, the lower-paying symbols really don’t pay much – and the same rings true in Wild Chase: Tokyo Go. You’re not going to end up walking away with any notable wins while playing using the lower-paying symbols unless you’re very lucky – and usually only in the Super re-spin feature.

The higher-paying symbols are all represented by characters from the Wild Chase – the earlier Quickspin release I told you about – and it’s pretty cool actually, as you’ll see a couple of male characters and some attractive women on the reels, all designed around a Miami Vice-esque theme. It works well, and we feel Quickspin have pulled the theme off incredibly well!

Bonus Features

The first thing you’ll notice when playing Wild Chase: Tokyo Go is that, with each win, the size of the reels increases. Now, unlike other video slots, this isn’t actually done by increasing the height of individual reels.

Instead, the reels “shift” from the right-hand-side of the screen to the left-hand-side of the screen, and if you manage to repeat this process four times you’ll trigger the bonus round which I’ll cover below. First, let’s look at the other reel modifier you’ll find in Wild Chase: Tokyo Go.

Win Re-Spins

Any symbols that form a win lock in place, and a re-spin is awarded. This is when the reels shift by one position to the left-hand-side, and on the re-spin any new symbols that attach to the existing win also lock in place.

This process then continues until you either manage to reach the end (at which point the bonus round is triggered which I’ll cover below) or until no more wins are formed, at which point the game returns to normal for the next spin.

Super Re-Spins

If you manage to fully unlock the game grid, you’ll trigger the Super Re-Spins feature. This gives you one free spin with the board fully unlocked, and any winning symbols are locked in place before a re-spin is awarded. What’s really interesting is that you’re paid out after each re-spin – and this is why, strangely, you don’t actually want to land a full screen of a specific symbol at once.

Instead, you’d rather lock them in one by one, as this will allow you to accumulate more wins while still continuing the feature.
Once no more winning symbols are locked in – or when you fill the entire screen – the feature will end, and you’ll then return to the base-game at which point the next spin begins as normal.

Jackpot and How To Win

While Quickspin claims you can win in excess of 2,500X your stake while playing Wild Chase: Tokyo Go, I, personally, find it very hard to believe you’ll ever achieve wins of more than 1,000X your stake – and even this is a complete stretch if I’m honest.

Now, with that being said – don’t let that put you off playing Wild Chase: Tokyo Go. The game is more than capable of dishing out wins in the 2-500X region, and I myself have had multiple wins in this region – especially if you’re lucky enough to get some of the top-paying symbols locked in during the re-spin feature.

In terms of improving your chances of winning – Wild Chase: Tokyo Go doesn’t offer different RTP settings, so it doesn’t matter what stake you’re playing at – the game will play exactly the same across all betting options. I should also point out that there is no way of improving your chances of winning – mathematically, at least.

One thing you can do is play through the variance and give the slot a good few hundred spins. This is probably your best chance of unlocking the game’s main win-potential and will enable you to have a good chance of getting a couple of different re-spin features, one of which – I’d hope – would show you some of the game’s real win-potential!

Software

When it comes to mobile gaming, Quickspin has always been in the “middle” for me, when it comes to durability, quality and versatility. While their slots are some of the fastest to load on mobile devices, they can also be notoriously unreliable – even when you’re playing on a sturdy WIFI connection from a modern device.

I feel this is a real shame, and, as an avid Quickspin player myself, I can’t tell you how many times over the years I’ve found myself having to restart games due to “Connection Errors” or “Game Unavailable” messages.

Quite why they haven’t been able to fix these issues is beyond me – I know it’s not just me they affect too, and there are numerous reports of players online experiencing the same types of problems.

Now, looking exclusively at Wild Chase: Tokyo Go; I think it’s fair to say it’s a decent mobile-optimized game, and it plays fast, renders well and displays in full HD – but, unfortunately, it can’t escape the issues I mention above, and while this isn’t going to be a huge issue, if you’re playing the game solidly for a couple of hours you’ll probably need to restart the game once or twice.

The same goes for desktop devices/laptops, and from my experience the error messages are the same – although they do appear to be a bit less frequent.

Summary

If I’m being completely honest, I’ve got to say – Wild Chase: Tokyo Go is an excellent release from Quickspin, and I feel that it’s far better designed than Wins of Fortune, the slot it’s heavily (almost exclusively) influenced by.

While the math model looks to be virtually identical (I wasn’t able to find any information from Quickspin as to whether the game is more or less volatile than the original), the fact that they’ve brought in characters from the Wild Chase – another of their hugely popular slots – is a major ‘plus point’ in my opinion and goes to show that the game developer is keen to build games in-line with iGaming trends.

I played Wild Chase: Tokyo Go for quite a while in order to write this review, and I think the thing that became clear – quickly – is that activating the final re-spin feature isn’t particularly easy. Of course, if you’ve played Wins of Fortune before you’ll know that this is to be expected – it’s a hard trigger to feature because it can pay pretty well – but, unfortunately, like the original, you’re very unlikely to end up walking away with more than 500X your stake.

On the whole, Wild Chase: Tokyo Go is fun, fast-paced and action-packed, and if you’re looking for something new to try – or loved Wins of Fortune and want to enjoy Quickspin’s sequel – then Wild Chase: Tokyo Go is a fantastic choice.
