Today I’m excited to bring you this Gold Digger slot review, a brand new game from one of the up and coming video slot developers, iSoftbet.

iSoftbet may not be one of the biggest game developers on the planet, but over the past year or two they’ve started to become somewhat of a leading name in the iGaming world, with games featured in more and more of the top online casinos.

Their rise has been largely thanks to their partnership with Big Time Gaming, allowing the developer to use the Megaways mechanic in their slots. This has proved immensely successful, with titles like Aztec Gold Megaways becoming an instant hit with players – and Gold Digger is one of the software provider’s latest releases.

I only started playing iSoftbet’s games a few months ago (I’m an avid gambler myself, and pride myself on having played hundreds of different video slots!), but to be fair the developer has really caught my attention – and that’s why I’m excited to review Gold Digger for you, today. This mining-inspired game is built around a fairly standard 5-reel, 3-row format, although these can be expanded – something I’ll be covering later in this review.

The game has an RTP which is fixed at 96%, and there are a total of 20 fixed paylines. While the game doesn’t use Big Time Gaming’s Megaways mechanic it seems to already be proving popular with players – and a lot of that could be down to the massive win-potential it offers; you can win thousands of times your stake if you’re lucky enough to land the lucrative bonus!

How To Play

I’ve got to be honest with you, one of the only things I don’t love about iSoftBet is their game’s user-interface. I don’t think it’s as user-friendly as it could be, and – especially for beginners.

It can be a little confusing trying to wrap your head around how wins are paid out. You’ll see the win animations paid as coin wins, as opposed to cash values. Still, once you get to grips with the game it’s easy enough, it can just take a little getting used to.

Gold Digger uses iSoftBet’s latest user-interface, and you’ll notice right from the get go that they’ve opted for a minimalist approach. To the right-hand-side of the reels you’ll see three buttons; the biggest one is the spin button, and this is what you’ll want to press when you’re ready to begin playing.

Below this is the stake adjustment button; this is where you’ll be able to scroll through the various stake options available and choose your bet. You’ll also notice a smaller button above the spin button, and this is where you’ll be able to activate the autoplay function.

I love autoplay myself – it allows you to set up to 100 spins to play automatically without you manually needing to click on every spin. Look to the bottom left-hand-corner of the screen and you’ll see a speaker icon.

This allows you to toggle the game’s sound on or off, and directly to the right-hand-side of this button you’ll see an ‘i’. This is where you’ll be able to find out more about the game – and it’s where you’ll find the game’s paytable and rules.

Symbols and Payouts

Like I see in virtually all of iSoftBet’s slots, Gold Digger uses playing card values to depict the lower-paying symbols. This includes a Jack, Queen, King, and an Ace – surprisingly, 10s are excluded. The higher-paying symbols include an Axe, a Lantern, a Carriage of Gold and the Prospector.

GoldDigger paytable

If you form a 5-of-a-kind combo of the Prospector symbol on an active payline you’ll be awarded a payout worth 25X your stake – so while it’s not the best in the world, it can add up – especially when multipliers are attached (which I’ll cover below.)

You can always check the paytable for an up-to-date breakdown of the symbols and payouts, but I should point out that Gold Digger offers just eight paying symbols – far less than the vast majority of video slots in today’s day and age.

Bonus Features

I think it’s fair to say Gold Digger is all about the bonuses – and to begin with I want to talk to you about a few of the randomly-triggered bonuses.

These can trigger on any spin during the base-game, and when they do you’ll see Gus the miner appearing from the side of the screen. He can do one of three things; firstly, he can throw dynamite onto the reels, turning between 3 and 5 symbols into wilds.

Secondly, he can choose a symbol at random, transforming all instances of that symbol into Golden Nuggets – helping you trigger the bonus. Finally, he can also push a detonator, which upgrades some of the lower-paying symbols on the reels.

Gold Link Re-Spin Feature

If you manage to land five or more of the Nugget symbols anywhere in view you’ll trigger the Gold Link Re-Spin feature. You will then receive 3 re-spins, and during these re-spins the Nuggets are locked in place.

If, on the re-spin, you land any additional Nuggets they are also locked in place – and your re-spin counter is reset back to 3. This continues until you either form a full screen of the Nuggets, or until you dont land any new symbols for the 3 re-spins. Each Nugget contains a cash value which are added up at the end of the bonus.

Now, during the Gold Link Re-Spin feature, you will also notice special gems landing on the reels. If you manage to collect three of these throughout the re-spins you’ll activate a special booster. If you collect three of the Blue Gems you’ll unlock between one and three extra rows – increasing the number of symbols in view, and also increasing the chances of landing more Nuggets.

If you collect three of the Green Gems the value of all Nugget symbols on screen will increase – leading to bigger wins. If you collect three of the Red Gems you’ll be awarded an extra re-spin – which can, potentially, be a vital lifeline. Finally, if you collect three of the Purple Gems you’ll see a multiplier attached to your re-spins winnings, up to a maximum of 10X!

At first, it can be quite a lot to take in – but once you get the hang of it you’ll see that it’s a pretty addictive slot by nature, and it’s not hard to see why it’s already proving to be one of iSoftBet’s biggest releases of 2020.

Jackpot and How To Win

Arguably one of the biggest reasons why Gold Digger is proving so popular with players is the phenomenal win-potential the game offers. It’s possible to win a maximum payout of 8,230X your total stake – and while the stars would need to align for this to happen, wins upwards of 1,000X are perfectly possible, and during the re-spins feature – if you get the right boosters – you could find yourself winning well in excess of this.

In terms of how to win while playing; like all video slots (excluding some progressive jackpots) it doesn’t matter how much you wager on each spin – the odds of you winning don’t change. Similarly, it doesn’t matter whether you play Gold Digger for a few spins or a few thousand – your chances of winning are exactly the same.

There is no “system” for beating the game – however, as it’s incredibly volatile, I would say come prepared to put through a good few hundred spins. Any less than that and you’re not really giving the game the chance to unleash its full potential.

If I were playing it, I’d be looking to play 2-300 spins at a minimum – and if I got a bonus during those spins I’d see it as a good result.

Software

Gold Digger slot logo Like all of iSoftBet’s releases over the past few years, Gold Digger is built using HTML5.

This means it renders in instant play (so you don’t need to download or install any software to begin playing), and – more importantly – it also means you can play the game comfortably from your mobile devices. It can be played on virtually all mobile phones and tablet devices, and all you need to do is open up the game at your favourite online casino, tilt your device into landscape mode and begin playing!

I found the game ran smoothly, and when I was testing it specifically for this review I didn’t experience any lag or freezing. It’s clear iSoftBet have put a lot of work into their software, and I can’t find any real complaints to point out.

Summary

While it’s not the most original theme in the world (how many mining-themed games have we seen lately) Gold Digger is a great effort by iSoftBet, and the unique bonus mechanic means there’s always action unfolding – even during the base-game.

Of course, as a volatile slot you should be prepared to go hundreds of spins without – potentially – hitting a bonus, but this can often be made up by when the bonus does land as it’s pretty common for it to pay well in excess of 100X. It’s a great game, and if you’re looking for a volatile slot with big win-potential, Gold Digger could be well-worth checking out!
