Nolimit City is a game developer who has achieved record success over the past year. Out of (seemingly) nowhere they’ve emerged to become an industry-leading mobile slots provider, and I’ve had a lot of fun playing many of their games; titles like Deadwood and Tombstone have proved phenomenally successful, so it’s not just me enjoying them either!

Buffalo Hunter is one of their latest releases, and this Native American-inspired game takes you to the great plains of America where you’ll be playing alongside various animals. Of course, there’s some solid win-potential on offer too (as is the case with virtually all the software provider’s games), and I was happy to find the slot can be played from as little as 20p per spin, meaning it’s ideal for those on a smaller budget!

The game itself is built around a 5-reel, 4-row format and there are a total of 40 fixed paylines in play here. The game’s RTP is 96.34%, although I wasn’t able to determine whether this is a fixed RTP or whether Nolimit City will be offering different RTP settings to different online casinos. In this Buffalo Hunter slot review I’m going to be giving you an in-depth, impartial and unbiased review of what the game has to offer – and I’m going to kick things off with a look at how to actually play.

How To Play

One of the things I really like about Nolimit City’s games is that they’re incredibly easy to play. Their betting interface, I find, is very user-friendly, and this means that tasks like choosing your bet size and adjusting the game’s settings are made simple and straightforward.

To choose how much you’re going to be staking on each spin you simply need to press the “$” icon which is found to the left-hand-side of the screen on desktop devices, and this will give you a breakdown of all the available bet amounts; just choose the one that suits you and hit the big spin button to start enjoying the action!

You’ll also see a few other buttons on the user-interface, and I’m going to walk you through a couple of the most important ones. Directly below the main spin button you’ll see a small play button. This is where you can activate the game’s autoplay setting, and here, you’ll be able to set up to 100 spins to play out automatically, without you needing to click manually each time.

Just to the right of this button there’s also an icon that looks like a lightning bolt. Clicking this activates the “fast play” mode, which is ideal if you’re looking to speed up the gameplay. If you’re like me, you just want to trigger the bonus round as quickly as possible – and this is a great way to speed up the process!

Symbols and Payouts

Like almost all video slots, Buffalo Hunter uses a combination of lower-paying and higher-paying symbols on the reels, and the lower-paying ones are depicted using playing card symbols. This includes the likes of 10, J, Q, K, and A.

Buffalo Hunter slot payout table

They don’t pay particularly well, but that’s no surprise to me – it’s the premium symbols you’ll want to aim for, and there are five of these in total, all of which are various American animals. These higher-paying symbols include Pronghorns, Wolves, Cougars, Eagles and finally, the Buffalo.

The Buffalo is (unsurprisingly) the game’s highest-paying symbol, and landing a 5-of-a-kind combo will award you a payout worth 50X your stake. It may not sound like much, but when I show you the bonuses and features below, you’ll see how it can quickly add up.

I should also point out the Dream Catcher symbol, which appears on all five reels. The Dream Catcher is the wild symbol in Buffalo Hunter, and it substitutes for all other symbols aside from the scatter symbols. However, the Dream Catcher doesn’t have its own pays, so a 5-of-a-kind combo of the wild will award the same amount of money as the Buffalo; 50X your stake.

Bonus Features

I was really impressed with the bonuses in Buffalo Hunter, and it’s clear that Nolimit City have designed the game in-line with what us players actually want in today’s fast-paced online gambling world. Below, I’m going to walk you through the different bonuses on offer.

Buffalo Horde Free Spins

If you manage to land three or four of the scatter symbols anywhere in view during the base-game you’ll get the choice of picking from two bonuses, and the Buffalo Horde Free Spins is one of the choices. If you opt to choose this free-spins bonus you’ll be awarded 6-9 free-spins, and during the bonus certain symbols have special glowing rings around them.

When these glowing symbols land in view you’ll see that they add to a meter on the left-hand-side of the screen, and once you fill a meter up, it will transform one of the animal symbols into the Buffalo; this makes it far easier to land 5-of-a-kind combos of the game’s higher-paying symbol.

It’s possible to transform all four animals into the Buffalo, so it’s a similar mechanic to what we’ve seen used in Thunderkick’s Pink Elephants and NetEnt’s Gorilla Kingdom.

Prairie Multiplier Free Spins

The Prairie Multiplier Free Spins bonus round is the second option you’ll be given if you land 3 or 4 scatter symbols during the base-game.

It’s pretty similar to the Buffalo Horde bonus round, although it is more volatile, and that’s because instead of upgrading symbols you’ll be looking for multipliers instead. Each time you land a multiplier it will multiply the win by up to 5X, and that means that a 5-of-a-kind combo of the Buffalo symbol is now worth a cool 250X your stake instead of the 50X that they’re worth during the base-game.

Stampede Super Bonus

I was not surprised to find that Nolimit City has included a “super bonus” in Buffalo Hunter, and this is triggered by landing five of the scatter symbols in view during the base-game. Do so and you’ll trigger the Stampede Super Bonus, and here, you’re essentially getting both of the other features combined into one.

This means that you’re able to upgrade symbols and see a multiplier attached to wins – and it’s this bonus where the game’s biggest win-potential lies, although I should point out that it’s very hard to trigger naturally, as five scatter symbols seldom land during the base-game.

I also want to point out that Buffalo Hunter offers a “Bonus Buy” option to players outside the UK, and this allows you to automatically trigger any of the bonuses by paying 100-600X your stake. To give you an idea of how much win-potential is found within the Stampede Super Bonus I just want to reiterate that to buy it, you need to pay a whopping 600X your stake!

big win on Buffalo Hunter slot game

Jackpot and How To Win

As I mentioned earlier, Nolimit City’s games are – generally speaking- designed to deliver some pretty significant win-potential, and Buffalo Hunter is no exception.

The game developer claims that it’s possible to win as much as 10,000X your stake on every spin – and this is, of course, made possible during the Stampede Super Bonus. It’s a phenomenal win amount, especially when you consider that’s how much you can win per spin – and not in total.

As I always say, there’s no “sure fire” way to increase your chances of winning, but I should point out that the RTP does increase very slightly if you opt to buy the features using the bonus buy option as opposed to trying to land them manually during the base-game. Of course, this won’t apply to UK players – but those outside of the UK may want to consider using the feature buy option, as it does slightly increase the long-term payout percentage of the slot.

Software

Buffalo Hunter slot logo I can’t really fault Nolimit City on how their games are made; they’re perfectly mobile-optimized, and this ensures you can enjoy playing them from your mobile phone and tablet without needing to download or install any additional bits of software.

When I was writing this review I tried out Buffalo Hunter on my Android tablet and didn’t run into any issues at all. It loaded quickly, and I found it was easy to select my stake, activate the autoplay function and play the game as were I using a desktop computer or laptop.

I have to give Nolimit City five stars here as their HTML5 technology works really well on almost all mobile devices.

Summary

If you’re looking for a pretty volatile slot that can actually deliver that big win-potential, then Buffalo Hunter is a “must play” in my opinion.

Compare the Best Mobile Slots Apps

I love the fact that it offers you the choice of choosing which bonus round you want to play, and while the Stampede Super Bonus is very rare, when it does come along you’re virtually guaranteed a payout of at least 500X your stake.

It’s another great game from a great game developer, and I couldn’t recommend it highly enough!
