Dragons of the North is a spanking new video slot from Pariplay that’s themed all around the exciting world of fierce, fire-breathing dragons. It’s a perfect theme for fans of The Hobbit or any other Tolkien stories. The game’s built around a 5-reel format and there’s a total of 50 paylines active at all times. When I was testing out the game, I found that I was able to play from as little as 50p and as much as £25 per spin.

The game’s packed full of action, and I was particularly impressed to find that there’s a plethora of bonuses and features packed in. Later on in this Dragons of the North slot review I’ll cover the specifics of these bonuses – to kick things off, let’s take a look at how to play on mobile and desktop.

How To Play

As soon as I opened up Dragons of the North I was pleased to find that there was a range of betting and in-game options available. There are two main ways of choosing how much you want to bet; firstly, you’ve got the coin value option. This lets you adjust the amount of money you want to spend per coin.

There’s also a “bet” button, which lets you cycle through a variety of different betting options – essentially there’s two ways to choose how much you want to set your stake to. When playing through a mobile slot site, in the bottom left-hand-corner of the screen you’ll see three dots.

Clicking on these opens up a few additional options; this includes allowing you to view the paytable (to see how much each symbol pays) along with adjusting some settings like the volume. Once you’re reading to begin playing, all you need to do is hit the big “spin” button to get started.

Symbols and Payouts

Like many video slots today, Dragons of the North utilizes playing card values, including 10, jack, queen, king, and ace as the game’s lower-paying symbols. These aren’t worth a lot, I think it’s fair to say – although lining up 5-of-a-kind combos of the Kings and Aces can produce some decent-sized wins.

Dragons Of The North payouts

It’s really the four different Dragons you’ll want to be paying close attention to, though. Even matching 3-of-a-kind combinations of these can result in some big paydays, and all dragons are stacked across all five reels – meaning there’s some excellent win-potential if you manage to catch the slot on a good day.

The game’s scatter symbol is represented by a Golden Egg – this appears on all five reels and is key to triggering the main bonus round which I’ll cover in the following section.

Bonus Features

I found plenty of bonus features in Dragons of the North – and I’m going to be talking about these now. Firstly, I want to draw your attention to the meters above each of the five reels.

On each spin, the contents of these meters changes, and it can display either cash, free spins of the word “jackpot”. To win any of these, you simply need to land the Dragon Egg below the reel; you will then receive that particular prize which I’m going to show you below.

Cash Prize

The cash prize meter awards a simple cash prize – this is equal to 2X, 5X, 10X or 20X your total stake. This is added to your balance automatically.

Free Spins

If you’re lucky enough to trigger the free-spins feature (I was unable to after trying out the game for 200 spins!) you’ll receive 10 free-spins. During the free-spins, you’ll automatically win any of the prizes that land in the metres above reels 2 and 4 – guaranteeing you some nice-sized wins.

Dragons Of The North free spins

It’s also possible to win additional free-spins; this is done by landing any eggs on reels 1, 3 or 5. Each egg that lands in view awards 2 additional free-spins. There’s no upper cap on how many free-spins you can win during the free-spins bonus.

Jackpot Feature

If you’re lucky enough to land an egg under one of the jackpot metres you’ll trigger the Jackpot Wheel feature. You will then get to spin a giant Wheel of Fortune-type wheel. There are four jackpots; the Mini, Minor, Major and Grand. These are worth 15X, 35X, 250X and 1,000X your stake respectively.

While I was unable to trigger the free-spins feature while testing out Dragons of the North, I can say that the coin wins typically appear quite commonly. In fact, I was able to hit the top prize of 10X quite a few times – making it a nice little “balance booster” during gameplay.

Jackpot and How To Win

As I pointed out in the previous section, the maximum win while playing Dragons of the North is 1,000X your stake. Imagine, for a moment, that you’re playing at a £2 bet size; hitting the jackpot would award you a payout of £2,000!

However, that’s not the only way of winning the 1,000X jackpot. You will also receive a 1,000X stake payout if you’re lucky enough to land five wild reels during the base-game (or during the free-spins feature.) This is, however, incredibly rare – so don’t expect to see it landing particularly often!

If you’re interested in learning more about the different payouts in Dragons of the North, you can access the in-game paytable I mentioned earlier. This will give you a full breakdown of all the game’s payouts – and it also details more about the bonuses and features so you have an idea of how everything works.

It’s worth familiarizing yourself with the pays, so you know what to look for when spinning the reels – I certainly find it helps me understand the game a bit better!

Software

Dragons of the North While I find that Pariplay have been a bit slow to adapt to the whole mobile-optimized side of gaming, today their games are built using HTML5. This means you can enjoy playing Dragons of the North from your mobile device – without needing to download or install any additional pieces of software.

In fact, playing the game from your mobile device is simple; just navigate to your favourite online casino, open the game up and tilt your device into landscape mode. You’ll then be able to select your bet size and make any necessary in-game adjustments and begin spinning!

Summary

I think it’s fair to say Pariplay aren’t one of the biggest names in the online gambling world – but that doesn’t mean their games should be ignored. Dragons of the North is one of the developer’s best games yet (in my opinion) and I think it’s fair to say it’s suitable for virtually all players – both those new to online gambling looking for something chilled out and those looking for some decent win-potential.

Compare the Best Mobile Slots Apps

One of the major criticisms I do have with the game is that I feel the maximum win of 1,000X your stake is a little low. In a time where we’re used to seeing high variance monsters coming from the likes of Big Time Gaming and Wazdan, a 1,000X cap definitely seems on the low end of the scale – but it’s not an impossible jackpot to reach, so I guess it’s not all bad news.

I also want to point out that Pariplay has done an excellent job with the game’s visuals. The dark, and somewhat creepy feel to the game makes for excellent gameplay – and if you get the chance, I’d highly recommend that you try to play the game using headphones. This will help immerse you into the game as much as possible.
