In this Mardi Gras Magic slot review I’m going to be giving you my honest thoughts about the game – covering everything, from how to play Mardi Gras Magic, to walking you through the game’s bonuses and features.
As you can probably tell from the name, Mardi Gras Magic is themed around Mardi Gras – and the festive carnival is well-depicted in the game, with Realtime Gaming sparing no expense when it comes to graphics; the reels are set in the midst of a street, at night, with partygoers enjoying themselves in the foreground, and lights and confetti seen on either side of the reels.
The game is built around a 5-reel, 3-row format – something that I’ve become quite used to seeing from Realtime Gaming recently – and the game has 25 fixed paylines. Incidentally, this also means the minimum bet of Mardi Gras Magic is just 0.25 credits – so you can enjoy the slot even if you’re on a budget and don’t want to break the bank while playing!
With wins of up to 20,000X your stake possible in Mardi Gras Magic, it’s clear the game’s got great win-potential – but will it live up to the hype? Let’s find out, by kicking off this Mardi Gras Magic slot review with a look at how to actually play the game.
How To Play
Like the vast majority of Realtime Gaming’s new video slots, Mardi Gras Magic utilises the software provider’s new HTML5-based platform, and, from what I’ve seen, this new HTML5 platform offers a much smoother, more enjoyable online gambling experience.
Aside from making it much easier to play their games on mobile devices, Realtime Gaming’s new HTML5 platform has also allowed for much better graphics – and, in turn, a much more user-friendly user-interface. It’s really easy-to-navigate and easy-to-use, and when playing Mardi Gras Magic, for example, you simply need to look directly below the middle of the reels to find the main spin button.
On the left-hand-side of the spin button there’s a minus symbol, and on the right-hand-side there’s a plus icon. You can use these to either increase or decrease the bet size, and there’s also a small icon depicting coins, which, when clicked, brings up an overview of all the betting options. Once you’ve found a stake size you’re comfortable with you simply need to hit the spin button and you’ll be able to begin playing!
To the far left-hand-side of the spin button you’ll also see a lightning bolt; this is the game’s quickspin function, and, when pressed, the speed at which every game round plays out is increased a lot. As you’d expert, Mardi Gras Magic also offers an autoplay function which allows you to set up to 1,000 spins to spin on their own without you having to manually click the spin button each time you want to play a new round!
Symbols and Payouts
I found it refreshing to see that Realtime Gaming has decided against using playing card values, including 10, jack, queen, king, and ace to represent the lower-paying symbols in Mardi Gras Magic. Instead, you’ll see playing card suits – including Hearts, Clubs, Diamonds and Spades – all designed around a neon-like look and feel, fitting in well with the game’s overall theme.
The game’s higher-paying symbols are largely made up of attractive female dancers – all dressed in impressive carnival outfits and enticing you to hit the “spin” button!
As mentioned earlier, it’s possible to win as much as 20,000X your total bet while playing Realtime Gaming’s Mardi Gras Magic slot – although it’s not in the base-game that you’ll find this win-potential unlocked, but in the free spins bonus instead, details of which I’m going to cover below.
Bonus Features
Aside from the free spins bonus round I mentioned above, Mardi Gras Magic has a few other bonuses and features built in – and I’ll walk you through all of these, below.
Random Prize Award
During the base-game, on any spin, a mini-feature can trigger – called the Random Prize Award. This isn’t a bonus round, per-self-exclusion – but when it activates you’ll be awarded a random cash value, and this value is then multiplied by the bet per line.
It’s possible to win up to 100X your total stake during this mini-feature, so while it’s not going to make you rich, it’s a feature that can help you maintain your balance while you go in search of the main free spins bonus round. I managed to trigger the Random Prize Award four times in 300 spins – and the highest I won from it was 35X my total stake.
Bursting Wilds
The Bursting Wilds feature is active on every spin – both during the base-game and the free spins feature – and when the special bursting wild symbols land anywhere in view on the reels, they can then randomly transform adjacent symbols into wilds too. This feature can actually produce some really decent-sized wins – especially if you manage to land more than one of the bursting wilds – and if they then transform the right symbols, you can end up with, potentially, a 5-of-a-kind combo of the wild symbol!
Free Spins
The main bonus round, as I mentioned, in Mardi Gras Magic is the free spins bonus round, and this is triggered by landing 3, 4, or 5 of the scatter symbols anywhere in view during the base-game. Doing so awards you with 10, 15 or 20 free spins respectively.
During the free spins, you’re taken to a new set of reels, and on this set of reels, the Bursting Wilds land far more frequently on the reels. This means you have a much better chance of transforming many of the game’s symbols into wilds – thus increasing your chances of turning all symbols wild and hitting monster payouts!
During the free spins bonus round it’s also possible to land more scatter symbols. This allows you to re-trigger the feature, and landing 3, 4, or 5 of the scatter symbols anywhere in view will ward an additional 10, 15 or 20 free spins respectively.
Jackpot and How To Win
Mardi Gras Magic is one of those video slots where there isn’t really a maximum win, per-se; the software provider have revealed that, during their testing (which, I believe, includes billions of spin simulations) the maximum win they achieved was 20,000X – so in theory, it’s actually possible to win more than this amount albeit very unlikely!
Clearly, the maximum win-potential in Mardi Gras Magic is found during the free spins bonus round – when the Bursting Wilds are more likely to land on the reels – and if you manage to land enough of these wilds on the screen, it’s possible for all symbol positions to transform into wilds – which would result in you having a full screen of wilds and scooping the highest possible win-per-spin the game offers!
While testing the game, unfortunately (for me) my wins were more modest. However I could still clearly see the potential here and it seems quite feasible to hit the bigger numbers. The game left me feeling keen to try for more.
If you’re really aligned with the stars, you can potentially hit this full screen of wilds more than once during the bonus round – and, as I just mentioned, there’s no limit as to how many spins you can get – or how many times this can happen – so theoretically, there’s no limit on how much you can win playing Mardi Gras Magic!
Software
While, I think it’s fair to say, Realtime Gaming’s mobile-optimized video slots aren’t quite up to the same quality levels of, say, NetEnt or Play’n Go, they’ve done a solid job, and I really don’t have any complaints.
The only thing I would recommend is that when you play Mardi Gras Magic from a mobile device, you tilt your mobile device into landscape mode. The game doesn’t render that well in portrait mode – so I strongly suggest playing it in landscape to ensure you get the most immersive gaming experience possible!
Summary
Mardi Gras Magic is a great release from Realtime Gaming, in my opinion. Sure, it might not be the most creative video slot I’ve ever reviewed – but I like the way it plays, I like the fact that you can as much as 20,000X your stake, and I really like the fact that there’s three different bonuses and features within the game.

While the Random Prize Award doesn’t usually award more than 10-20X, it can act as a nice little balance booster – and it’s ideal to help you keep playing as you go in search of the main free spins bonus!
