In this Jungle Gorilla slot review, I’m going to give you my honest and impartial thoughts about the slot – and what you can expect when playing it for yourself at any of the top mobile slots sites.

Jungle Gorilla is a brand-new video slot from Pragmatic Play, and it’s themed around – well, I don’t need to tell you that. But OK, I will – a Gorilla! The slot is built around a 5-reel, 3-row format, and you’ll find yourself able to play the game from as little as 0.20 credits per spin and as much as 100 credits. The slot has 20 fixed paylines, and you can’t change the number of paylines active on every spin.

Like most of the game developer’s slots, Jungle Gorilla looks great, and there’s a rich jungle backdrop behind the reels, helping set the scene and add to the ambience of the slot. The RTP of Jungle Gorilla is also pretty high, coming in at 95.57% – so this should ensure you’re able to get a decent amount of play-time out of the game.

How To Play

All Pragmatic Play slots are incredibly easy to play – in fact, it’s one of the reasons why the game developer has become so popular today. They’re particularly well-known for their “slam stop” quickspin feature which allows you to spin incredibly quickly – although I should point out that new regulations are likely to see this function slowly phased out.

To get started, all you need to do is select the stake you want to play, and hit the big green “Play” button on the right-hand-side of the screen. All the game options can be found in the bottom left-hand-corner of the screen, and you’ll see your account balance and total bet just to the right of these game options.

Jungle Gorilla slot game is really easy to play, and there’s also an autoplay function which enables you to set up to 100 spins to play-out automatically. I find this really useful, as, manually clicking each spin can get tiring – especially when you’re determined to stay on a specific slot until the bonus round lands!

Symbols and Payouts

Like most of Pragmatic Play’s slots, Jungle Gorilla uses a combination of lower-paying and higher-paying symbols. The lower-paying ones are all playing card values, including, jack, queen, king, and ace; you’ll notice that the game developer has chosen not include the commonly-seen “10” on the reels. The game’s higher-paying symbols are all theme-specific, and these include a variety of jungle creatures.

You’ll see chameleons, parrots, elephants, tigers and gorillas – and, to be honest with you, even the higher-paying symbols are pretty low-paying, with the Gorilla (the game’s top-paying symbol) awarding a payout worth just 4.5X your stake for a 5-of-a-kind combo. That’s poor – but when you factor in the multipliers, which I’ll cover in the section below, it does become a bit clearer as to how big wins are formed.

Bonus Features

One of the things I really don’t like in Jungle Gorilla slot is the fact that Pragmatic Play has chosen not to cram it full of bonuses and features. While this may suit some of the more retro, old-school players, for me – it’s just not what I look for in a slot today, and I’m surprised that the game developer aren’t interested in putting more features into the slot. Nonetheless, below, I’ll cover what bonuses and features you will find inside the slot.

Wild Multiplier Feature

This is the only feature you’ll actually find in Jungle Gorilla slot, and if you look above each of the slot’s reels you’ll notice that there’s a progressive multiplier. All of these multipliers begin on 1X, and each time one of the Gorilla scatter symbols lands on a reel, it will increase the multiplier of that respective reel by 1X. The maximum these multipliers can reach is 5X.

When a wild symbol then lands on one of those reels -and forms part of a win – the multiplier above (at the top of the reel) will then apply to that win, before they then reset to 1X.

That’s exactly what I did to get the big win above. I managed to hit 5x Wild Multipliers on the first and third reels, and then spun in a row of 4 parrots resulting in a 4,500 Euro payout. It’s not a life changing win, but not bad at all while I was simply testing the game for this slot review, so I’m pretty happy with the return on this occasion.

That said, I would have loved Pragmatic Play to of built a free spins bonus round into Jungle Gorilla. But, for whatever reason, they’ve chosen to stick just to the base-game reel modifiers. This will suit some players, but for me, it certainly feels like something is a bit lacking.

Jackpot and How To Win

Today, we’re all used to seeing video slots with tremendous win-potential. Take NetEnt’s Dead or Alive 2 – with a maximum win of 100,000X stake – or Relax Gaming’s Money Train 2 – with a 50,000X max win. This kind of win-potential is clearly being sought out by players – and that’s why we’re always surprised when we see mainstream game developers pushing out games with fairly low maximum wins.

Jungle Gorilla slot meets that latter criteria – and you’ll find that you’re able to win just 2,800X your stake on a single spin/bonus round. Of course – a 2,800X win is still great – but it does mean that the slot is somewhat limiting, especially when it comes to players who are going solely in search of those bigger, once-in-a-lifetime hits.

There’s no different RTP settings in Jungle Gorilla, so you don’t need to worry about increasing your bet size in order to improve your chances of winning. Just make sure to give the slot a fair number of spins – 1-200 should be sufficient.

Around five years ago, I remember playing one of Pragmatic Play’s other slots from my mobile device. I believe it was an iPhone – and I distinctly remember that the playing experience was far worse than I’d have expected to see from a game developer of Pragmatic Play’s size.

Still, little did I know that – back then – the software provider were a relatively new name in the iGaming industry, and it’s only in the past year or two that they’ve really started to hit it on the mainstream – and, thankfully, a big part of this breakthrough is the fact that their games are now more accessible than ever before.

They’re clearly investing more money into their mobile gaming facilities, and I found that this was really noticeable on the Jungle Gorilla slot. To make sure, I decided to test it out on a number of devices – including both Android and iOS mobile devices. Jungle Gorilla played well across all of these devices, and I was able to enjoy the slot without any lag, freezing or delays.

This, for me, is one of Pragmatic Play’s biggest achievements to date; they’ve really sorted out their mobile gambling facilities, and you’ll have no issues playing Jungle Gorilla from your mobile devices.

Desktop/laptop users will also be able to enjoy the slot, as Pragmatic Play’s desktop gaming experience is even more sturdy and reliable. The bottom line? What I’m getting at, is that Jungle Gorilla renders across all devices – and you don’t need to download or install any additional bits of software in order to get started!

Summary

When I first started to review the Jungle Gorilla slot, I was sure it would share many similarities with NetEnt’s Gorilla Kingdom. It’s becoming increasingly common that we’re seeing game developers releasing “clones” of each other’s slots – so I was happy to find that Jungle Gorilla isn’t anything like NetEnt’s slot with a similar name.

That being said, the actual theme of the slot is pretty similar – and you’ll find that the Harambe-like gorilla is the key element of the slot, and the scatter symbols look great too – everything fits in really well and Pragmatic Play have done an excellent job in ensuring the slot looks, feels and plays like a hit.

When it comes to looking at the bonuses and features – well, I can’t say I’m overly happy with how Pragmatic Play has chosen to build this, but it could be worse. The major issue I have with the bonus round is the fact that the multipliers are capped at just 5X. This is pretty low – especially in today’s fast-paced, action-packed online gambling world, and the fact that the extra scatter symbols are pointless – well, that’s something I’m used to seeing in old-school Microgaming slots – not something I thought we’d still be seeing today.

Still, during my testing of Jungle Gorilla, in addition to the big win I showed you earlier, I was also able to hit a couple of 100X+ wins – and these all came from the main bonus round.

I don’t like the fact that single line wins are capped at 500X your stake – as, again, in today’s competitive and fast-paced online gambling world this just doesn’t seem quite high enough to be viable when competing against other slots. Still, it’s not the end of the world, and a maximum total win of 2,800X your stake is tasty enough to tempt the vast majority of players in giving the slot a try for themselves.
