I don’t think I’d be alone in assuming – upon hearing the name “24K Dragon” – that the game would be featured around an Asian theme. It’s a theme we’ve seen popularized in the iGaming industry by game developers like Red Tiger Gaming – and while Play’n Go don’t have as many Asian-inspired slots as other software providers, they do have a fair few!

However, as you’ll soon see – 24K Dragon has nothing to do with “The Orient” – and it’s actually themed entirely around fierce, fire-breathing dragons. The slot is built around a 5-reel, 4-row format, and there’s 1024-ways-to-win active. However, the game grid can increase in size – details of which I’ll be covering later on in this 24K Dragon review.

The RTP of 24K Dragon is a fairly decent 96.18%, and this highly-volatile slot can be played from between 0.20 and 100 credits per spin – so there’s stake options for players on all budgets here! Let’s kick off this 24K Dragon slot review with a look at how to actually play the game!

How To Play

24K Dragon couldn’t be easier to play – and this, I find, is something that we’re used to seeing in almost all of Play’n Go’s slots. Once you first load up the game at your favourite slots site, you simply need to choose which of the betting options you’d like to take advantage of – and once you’re ready, you simply need to hit the “Spin” button.

As always, you’ll find an autoplay function – letting you set up to 100 spins to play-out automatically – and non-UK players can also take advantage of the Quickspin feature, which decreases the amount of time it takes between spins.

Symbols and Payouts

Like I’m used to seeing in virtually all of Play’n Go’s slots, 24K Dragon utilises playing card values, including 10, Jack, Queen, King, and Ace to represent the game’s lower-paying symbols. These don’t pay very much, although, thanks to the ways-to-win mechanic, they can add up – especially if forming part of a win when the reels are fully-expanded. (More on that in just a moment.)

When it comes to the higher-paying symbols, Play’n Go has opted to use theme specific symbols – and I think it’s fair to say all of these “premium” symbols look great. They include a Lion, a Green Gem, Crossed Swords, and a Silver and Gold Dragon.

The Treasure Chest is the game’s wild, although this only comes out into play during the bonus round. I’ll be talking about this later on within this 24K Dragon slot review.

Bonus Features

24K Dragon offers up some fairly exciting bonuses and features, and while they’re nothing we haven’t seen before, they do a good job of captivating players. Below, I’m going to be taking a look at the two main bonuses and features you’ll find inside 24K Dragon.

Re-Spin Feature

The first bonus round you’ll find inside 24K Dragon is the Re-Spin feature. This is triggered during the main base game, and it’s activated when one of the Golden Dragon symbols lands anywhere in view.

Once activated, between one and four additional reels are added to the game’s grid, and, as you can imagine, this massively increases the number of ways-to-win active on every spin. Each expansion can add up to three additional rows to each reel, and these are then “locked” in place for a free re-spin. Once the re-spin has played out, the game’s grid is returned to its normal size – and you can then begin the next spin.

Free Spins

The main bonus round in 24K Dragon is the Free Spins feature, and this is triggered by landing 3, 4, or 5 of the scatter symbols anywhere in view.

Doing so then awards you with 8, 15 or 20 free spins respectively – and, like the base game, the free spins round begins initially on the regular game grid. However, during the bonus round the Golden Dragon scatter symbols play a slightly different role than during the base game – and when you manage to land one of them in view, you no longer receive a free re-spin…

Instead, they’re collected – and added to a “metre” – and you can view the number of symbols you’ve collected on the left-hand-side of the reels.

When you’ve collected enough of these scatter symbols, you’ll unlock more rows, which lock in place for the duration of the bonus – and below, you can see a breakdown of how many of the Dragons you need to collect in order to open up the game grid:

  1. 3 Golden Dragons: unlocks 1 row, with the number of ways increased to 2,000
  2. 7 Golden Dragons: unlocks 2 rows, with the number of ways increased to 3,456
  3. 11 Golden Dragons: unlocks 3 rows, with the number of ways increased to 5,488
  4. 15 Golden Dragons: unlocks 4 rows, with the number of ways increased to 8,192

I should also point out that during the bonus round, an additional symbol is added to the reels; this takes the form of a Treasure Chest, and these act as wild symbols. When they land in view, they can have a multiplier value attached to them – either 2X or 4X – and when they form part of a win, the multiplier from that chest is applied to the win.

What I really like is that the multipliers multiply against one another – so, for example, landing two 4X wilds – both forming part of a win – would multiply the win by a whopping 16X! This means it’s possible for you to form wins of up to 64X!

Jackpot and How To Win

Load up virtually any of Play’n Go’s slots and you’ll notice – right off the bat – that the maximum amount of money you can win from playing is 5,000X your stake. In fact – Play’n Go goes as far as to promote this – and it’s a phrase that’s become tied with Play’n Go’s games.

That’s why I was so surprised to see 24K Dragon coming out with a whopping 24,000X maximum win! It’s significantly more than their other games offer, and it’s a phenomenal amount of money – even when pitted against games from other leading (super volatile) game developers like Big Time Gaming and Relax Gaming.

Of course, actually winning 24,000X your stake while playing 24K Dragon is going to be a challenge – and it’s all about those expanding reels during the main bonus round. Realistically, I think we’re going to be unlikely to see wins of higher than 2,500X coming from the slot – but still, it’s nice to know the win-potential is there, and those “once in a lifetime hits” are certainly possible while playing 24K Dragon!

Software

24K Dragon slot logo Play’n Go has a history of building very solid video slots – and I’ve found (as have thousands of other players) that they offer a significantly better mobile gaming experience than other software providers.

24K Dragon is a fantastic example of where these high levels of mobile-optimized come into play – and from the moment you first load up the slot, you’ll notice that it renders incredibly quickly, regardless of which device you’re playing from.

For the purpose of writing this 24K Dragon slot review, I tested out the game from my iOS and Android mobile devices – and I’m pleased to say that I encountered no issues loading or playing the slot.

Of course – as with most mobile video slots – I recommend that you tilt your device into landscape mode to get the best playing experience possible… but 24K Dragon renders fantastically, and it’s easy to scroll through all of the different stake options on offer. No complaints from me, here!

Summary

I think it’s fair to say that 24K Dragon is somewhat of a mixture between Game of Thrones and Dragon Maiden – both, two hugely popular video slots that have proven popular with players.

While Play’n Go aren’t known for building overly volatile slots, 24K Dragon is a decent example of what the game developer can achieve when they put their minds to it; a maximum win of 24,000X stake is well above what we’re used to seeing from the software provider, and it makes a nice refreshing change to see one of their games offering a maximum win of more than 5,000X your stake.

Which Slots Apps Are Best on Mobile?

From my experience testing 24K Dragon I would say that pretty much the crux of the slot is the expanding reels. With enough of these reel expansions during the bonus round, you can find yourself walking away with some pretty decent-sized hits, and while it’s not a completely intuitive bonus (Play’n Go have already used it, for example, in Testament) it does a decent job – and we’re pleased to see Play’n Go bringing it back for a second time.

If you’re looking for big win-potential, an exciting bonus round – but a lack of bonuses and features within the base game – then 24K Dragon should be well-suited for you. If, however, you’re the kind of player who likes constant action during the base game, then Blueprint Gaming’s slots may be better-suited for you. On the whole, however, 24K Dragon is a good effort from Play’n Go – and I feel it’s going to appeal to a wide variety of players.
