Annihilator were a Canadian rock/metal band who achieved a very minimal level of success – and despite being active for more than 35 years and putting out no less than 17 albums, they never really “made it” onto the mainstream. However, that may be about to change, as Play’n Go have just released their latest slot, featured all around the band – fittingly, it’s called Annihilator.

The game is based around a 5-reel, 3-row format, and there are 10 fixed paylines; this means you’re unable to change the number of active paylines. Players can spin the reels from as little as 10p per spin, and (casino dependent) the maximum stake is set at £100.

The purpose of this Annihilator slot review is to give you an honest, impartial look at the slot. I’ll be sharing my own personal thoughts about the game, along with information about the game’s symbols and payouts, details of the bonuses and features, and a basic introduction of how to play. Later on, I’ll give you my closing thoughts, and indicate whether or not I think the game’s worth checking out or not.

How To Play

Like any Play’n Go slot released in the last 3 years, Annihilator uses the game developer’s latest user-interface, which, I generally find is pretty sufficient on most mobile slot sites. Directly at the bottom centre of the game you’ll find the bet slider which allows you to choose how much you want to stake on each spin.

You can scroll through the stakes, and when you see the one you’d like to play, simply click on it and it will then be “active”. The Annihilator slot uses traditional playing card values, including 10, jack, queen, king, and ace to represent the game’s low-value symbols. To be completely honest with you, I was surprised how little these pay, even when forming a 5-of-a-kind combo – and it’s definitely the premium symbols you’ll want to be keeping an eye on. These include a Cracked Mirror, a Guitar, and Alice – clutching a teddy bear, no-less.

Alice is the highest-paying symbol (bar the wild) awarding a payout of 30X your total stake for lining up a 5-of-a-kind combo of her. Jeff Waters (a member of the band) acts as the game’s wild symbol, and he substitutes for all other symbols, apart from the scatter symbols.

A 5-of-a-kind combo of him pays 40X; so, while it’s significantly less than wild lines pay on many video slots, it’s still a sizeable win, especially when you come to find it’s possible to land a full screen of the wilds during the bonus!

Bonus Features

You’ll find two bonuses and features to look forward to in the Annihilator slot, and below, I’m going to give you my honest thoughts about them. One, I feel is pretty lame, while the other – the free spins bonus – offers some surprisingly good win-potential, given the slot’s low variance nature.

Fun Palace Pick Bonus

If you manage to land the Doll bonus symbol on reels 2, 3 and 4, you’ll trigger the Fun Palace Pick Bonus feature. You will then be taken to an eerie screen, with a derelict, abandoned staircase in the backdrop.

A number of dolls appear on your screen, and you simply need to pick these one-by-one to reveal a cash prize; these prizes can be worth 1X, 2X, 3X, 4X or 5X your total stake. If you hit one of these cash values, you get to keep picking. If you uncover one of the higher-paying dolls – which pay 10X, 15X, 20X, 25X or 50X, then the bonus ends.

However, it’s also possible to reveal the free-spins scatter symbol, and if you manage to do this you’ll instantly be awarded entry to the main bonus round, details of which I’m going to cover below.

Set The World On Fire Free Spins

The Annihilator slot game is all about the Set The World on Fire Free Spins bonus, and it’s triggered either through the Fun Palace bonus, or by landing three of the scatter symbols anywhere in view during the base-game. You will then receive 8 free-spins, which are played out on a new, unique set of reels.

On each spin, one reel is designated at random to become a wild reel. You will also see a number of symbols light up on the reels – this can be anywhere from 5, to the entire screen.

If you manage to land a single wild anywhere within this grid, the rest of the lit-up symbol will also transform into wild symbols. So, if the entire screen was to display all lit up symbols and you landed a wild symbol anywhere in view, you’ll enjoy a full screen of wilds – generating a pretty decent payout!

If the bonus symbol lands in view during the bonus you’ll also be awarded an additional 2 free-spins; there’s no limit to how many free-spins you can win.

In Command Bonus

This is more of a mini-feature as opposed to a bonus round, but I wanted to mention it anyway. During the base-game, this mini-bonus can trigger at any time, and when it comes any wild symbols in view expand to cover the entire reel they’ve landed on.

You are then awarded a re-spin, with the wilds stuck in place. If, on the re-spin, you land any more wilds they will also lock in place, with the re-spins continuing for as long as wilds land.

Jackpot and How To Win

The maximum amount you can win playing Annihilatorslot , on a single spin, is 400X your stake. This is achieved by landing a full screen of the wild symbols during the bonus round.

Now, this may not sound like a lot, but I should point out that it’s perfectly possible for this to happen multiple times during the free-spins feature. I’ve already seen streamers achieving just this, and it appears as though the full screen of wilds lands fairly regularly.

As with any video slot, there’s no guaranteed way to win, but by giving it a good amount of spins you are giving yourself the best chance of hitting one of the better-paying bonus rounds.
