Blackjack Suit ‘Em Up Rules

To start the game, the player selects the desired stake for each hand being played, and also a side bet for each hand if required.

The side bet is optional. You do not have to play it on every hand, or even at all. However, if you don’t intend to use the side bets then you’d be better off playing a different version of Blackjack.

The player receives two cards (both face up) and the dealer receives two cards (one face down, one face up). After the initial deal, if a side bet has been made then it is settled immediately (see below).

The main hand the continues using standard Blackjack Rules, with the following exceptions:

  • Blackjack Pays 3/2
  • Insurance Pays 2/1
  • Dealer Must HIT Soft 17
  • Player May Double Down on Any Two Cards
  • Only One Additional Card Deal on Split Aces

It’s a shame that the dealer doesn’t stand on Soft 17 but other than that, there are no major differences between the main part of Suit Em Up and Classic Blackjack. What sets this game apart from the rest is the side bet.

Suit Em Up Side Bet

suit em up side bet win The Suit ‘Em Up bonus is paid when the player first two cards are suited. If the player’s first two cards are not of the same suit, the Suit ‘Em Up wager is lost; otherwise, the player is eligible for the single highest payout (see below).

If you’re new to card games, “Suited” means that both cards are of the same Suit: Hearts, Diamonds, Spades or Clubs.

The payouts on the side bet are as follows:

  • Suited Aces – Pays 60/1
  • Suited Blackjack – Pays 10/1
  • Suited Pair – Pays 5/1
  • Suited Eleven – Pays 3/1
  • Any Other Suited Cards – Pays 2/1

Once all Suit ‘Em Up wagers are paid or collected, the hand resumes in the Blackjack standard fashion, according to the rules above.

The side bet is separate and has no influence on the main hand, and vice versa. Therefore, if the dealer wins the main hand, the side bet would still pay out.

Suit Em Up Blackjack Strategy

Because the main part of the game plays identically to standard blackjack, you do not need a separate strategy for Suit Em Up Blackjack.

Simply refer to the basic strategy tables (remembering dealer hits soft 17) and they’ll work fine on this variation too.

The only decision you will need to make is to choose your stakes for the Suit Em Up side bet.

Now, because the side bet pays at 2/1 for any two suited cards, it’s easier to win. So you’re going to hit a payout much more often than other side bet blackjack games such as Perfect Pairs.

This means you can be a little more adventurous in your staking, and you won’t need such a large bank to cover losing runs on the side game.

The stake size mainly depends on your playing style and attitude to risk. Personally, I stake around 1/5 to 1/4 of my main bet size on the Suit ‘Em Up bet. So if my main bet was $100 I might stake $20 to $25 on the side game. If my main bet was $25 I’d stake an additional $5.

These are just guidelines not recommendations, and you need to experiment and find a level you’re comfortable with. The free play option is a good way of doing this.

Who Should Play Blackjack Suit Em Up

This game is a good option for anyone looking for some variety. It’s a simple twist on the original with a little extra excitement on the side.

If you enjoy Blackjack with side bets then this is obviously right in your sweet spot. Particularly if you enjoyed Perfect Pairs, but wish the side game would pay out more often. This one does, and with a much bigger maximum pay out too.

Check out the casinos listed above and give it a try.
