Different Types of Corner Betting Markets
Today, you’ll find a huge number of ways to bet on corners, which creates a huge number of options for you to choose from.
What’s more, different bookmakers offer different types of bets. This can be hard to understand at first, but can also offer more opportunities to profit. Below, I’m going to show you some of the main corner markets you’ll find, and explain how each one works.
Corner Match Bet
This is the most common kind of bet on corners, in which you simply predict which team will win the most corners in the match. At most sportsbooks, you’ll also be able to choose to bet on a tie.
Total Corners
As the name suggests, in this market you predict the overall total corners in a game.
Often, you simply choose from a pre-selected number of “groups”, which usually includes: under 6, 6-8, 9-11, 12-14 and then over 14. Depending on the team in question, the odds can change quite drastically – so teams like Manchester City are going to usually have different odds than, say, Burnley.
Alternative Corners
The alternative corners market allows you to bet on the over, under, or exact amount of corners within a game. You can bet on as few as 3 corners all the way up to 17, and, in my experience, the even-money selection for the majority of these types of bets is around 9.
Corners 2-Way
Depending on the match and competition, you may be able to place 2-way corner bets. This is where the bookmakers set a “line”, and you then simply bet on whether the total corner count will be over or under that line.
I should point out that the line is a fraction, so it’s not possible for this bet type to end up in a tie. As an example of this, the line might be something like 8.5 corners. Since it is not possible for a team to win half a corner, this is a two-outcome market.
Corner Handicap
Corner handicap betting is a unique type of bet that gives you the chance to combine handicap betting with corners. You bet on the total number of corners in a match with a handicap added or removed at the end.
1st/2nd Half Corners
With 1st/2nd half corner bets, where you simply bet on how many corners will be awarded in the first or second half of the match, rather than the entire match.
Corner Race
Corner race bets simply mean that you’re placing a bet on which team will reach a certain number of corners first. As an example; you may be betting on one team to reach 5 corners first – and this is one of the best betting opportunities in my opinion as it’s available across all leagues, gives you an instant result – and means you either win or lose in the 90 minutes! Again, you’ll find this bet offered at virtually every bookmaker.
First / Next / Last Corner
This simple market allows you to bet on the outcome of which team will win the first corner or the last corner of the match.
There is also an in-play version, in which you can wager on which team gets the next corner. Depending on how the game goes, this market could be settled (and reset) multiple times throughout the game.
Multi-Corners
Multi-corners is one of the newest betting markets punters can take advantage of. You simply need to select the over or under on a line that is pre-set by the bookmaker; it’s a little complex at first, and some practice goes a long way in increasing your chances of winning this bet type. Again, Multi-corners is offered on most leagues giving you the choice to choose the line on a wide variety of football events.
Rules of Betting on Corners
Thankfully, whether you’re making corner predictions or any other type of soccer bet, the rules bookmakers bring in when it comes to football markets are fairly straightforward. For example, most bookies will give you in-depth information about what actually counts as a corner. I’ll give you an example: the major thing you need to be aware of, is that the corner must be taken – and not just awarded – in order for it to be counted.
If a corner is awarded in the 90th minute, for example, but it’s not actually taken – then that won’t count towards the market you’ve bet on; the team you’re betting on must take the corner for it to count. Similarly (market-depending), corners per match generally only count during 90 minutes (and injury time.)
Extra time doesn’t usually count and most bets are settled after 90 minutes (plus any added stoppage time). In knockout matches, if the game goes into extra time there will normally be new markets available to bet on for this additional period.
Corner Betting Strategies
If you’re looking for corner betting tips then the first thing to do is start familiarising yourself with corner statistics. Successful corner betting involves doing your research and gathering data – which will make any type of sports betting much easier. Some bookmakers also now offer guides – corner betting strategy sections as they’re often called. But it’s better to do your own research first.
Here, you can see lots of useful information which you can use to help decide on your corner betting system for this match. The site shows the average corners per game for both teams and also how those figures change depending on whether the team was playing at home or away.
You can use data like this to show you the overall corners awarded in each team’s previous fixtures. You could also look in more detail at whether there was a higher number of corners earned in the second half or first half. Some teams tend to be cautious in the first half and attack more in the second, and an attacking game plan will naturally result in more corners being won by that team.
It’s worth using a tool like this to see how a team is playing across multiple games, and it’s a great way of making soccer betting more profitable!
I should also point out that if you want to see lots of corners (well-suited for those looking to win more corners bets) then you may want to consider betting on some of the lower leagues. Generally speaking, the higher the quality of football the fewer corners there are – and while bookies know this (meaning the odds are usually worse on the lower league markets) – it’s still worth knowing, as it can increase the amount of corners quite dramatically within a game.
The last thing I want to mention is that you should always do your research with home and away data in mind. This is very important data in football betting, where teams can perform very differently at their own stadium than when they are 0n the road.
You’d be surprised how much this changes depending on the team in question – and thankfully, this is all research you can do pre-match.
In-Play Corner Betting
Placing corner bets on in-play markets can be a fantastic way to improve your chances of winning – and many punters use it to score more wins, pushing the end result into their favour.
The major benefit of in-play betting is that it opens up a number of new betting ways that simply aren’t possible when betting on the full 90 minutes. For example, you can bet on which team will take the next corner – or whether there will even be a corner within the next 10 minutes of the match or not.
I personally like the in-play corner markets as well as the usual pre-match ones, as it allows you to access a variety of new odds that weren’t necessarily available before the match began.
The main thing to remember when placing in-play bets is that markets change quickly – and odds do too. This means that you often need to make your betting decisions quite quickly – and you often won’t have a huge amount of time in order to do so. Because of this, I strongly recommend you only place in-play bets when you have a solid internet connection (WIFI, ideally), and when you know what you’re doing.
What is a Corner in Soccer?

Corners in football (soccer) are awarded when the ball crosses the touchline at either end of the pitch, and the last touch was off a player from the defending team. In this case, the attacking team will win the corner.
