Rules & How To Play
The main part of Perfect Pairs blackjack is played in just the same way as Classic Blackjack. The rules, gameplay, and controls when playing online are identical.
Check out our guide on how to play blackjack on mobile if you’re not already familiar with how the game works.
The options to Double, Split or take Insurance work in the same way as Classic also.
But the difference is the option of playing the Perfect Pairs side bet.
Perfect Pairs Side Game
However, this gives you the option to play the side bet on some hands but not others.
If you do choose to play the side game, you need to place additional chips in the Perfect Pairs box on the table. The Perfect Pairs side bet is a bet that your first two cards will be the same, but not necessarily the same suit.
Side Bet Hands & Payouts
Example payouts for the side bet are as follows:
- Mixed Pair – A pair that is comprised of one red suited card and one black-suited card – Pays 6/1
- Colored Pair – A pair that is comprised of 2 cards that are different suits, with both cards being either red suited or both cards being black suited – Pays 12/1
- Perfect Pair – A pair that is comprised of 2 cards that are identical in rank and suit – Pays 25/1
No matter what software or casino you play at, the three available winning configurations are always the same. Mixed Pair is the lowest paying, then Colored Pair, and the Perfect Pair is the highest paying hand in the game.
The example above shows a 6/12/25 configuration. However, you will find different payout levels at different casinos. For example, a configuration of 5/10/30 is found in some RTG game versions. This makes for a potentially more rewarding yet more volatile game.
The Perfect Pairs side bet is not affected by the dealers hand. It pays out even if you lose to the dealer on your main bet.
Blackjack Perfect Pairs Strategy
Therefore after the cards are dealt, there is no need to make any alterations to the way in which you would normally play the game.
As usual, check the table you’re playing and make sure that if possible, Blackjack pays 3/2 and the dealer must stand on soft 17.
In terms of the side bet, the result is determined by the first two cards you are dealt. Therefore there are no decisions to make and no strategy to employ at all, other than to decide on your stake size.
Obviously the stake size is up to you and should be determined by your attitude to risk. As the odds suggest, the odds of getting a pair are relatively small, so you need to make sure you have a bank large enough to withstand losing runs on the side game, and stake accordingly.
Personally, I tend to play an additional 1/4 of my normal bet size on the side game. So for example, if I was staking $100 per hand then my side bet stake would be $25. But I must stress that this is my choice, I’m not advising anyone else to do the same. You need to bet whatever you’re comfortable with.
It’s great when the Perfect pairs bets come off, but don’t bank on them hitting too regularly.
Who Should Play Perfect Pairs
Blackjack Perfect Pairs is suitable for anyone who is looking for a change to the normal Blackjack game, and/or who is prepared to risk extra stake money for the chance of much bigger payouts.
Most good online casinos will offer you the option to play for free in demo mode, so you can get a feel for how the game works before playing for real money.
