Vegas Strip Blackjack

Vegas Strip Blackjack Considering that Las Vegas is the home of gambling, with many of the world’s most famous hotels and casinos, it’s really no great surprise that they developed their own unique blackjack variations.

One of these is Vegas Strip Blackjack, which (as it won’t surprise you to learn) is the most commonly found version in all the casinos on Las Vegas Boulevard. If you’ve been to any of these establishments then this is the version you probably played.

Today we’ll take a look at how Vegas Strip Blackjack differs from other variations, how and where to play on your mobile, and what strategy you need to use in order to maximise your returns.

Vegas Strip Blackjack Rules

how to play and win at Vegas Strip Blackjack

Vegas Strip Blackjack uses 4 decks, and has several variations on the Classic Blackjack rules.

  • Dealer must stand on soft 17
  • Blackjack pays 3/2 online, but some tables on the strip pay 6/5
  • Dealer peeks for blackjack
  • Player may double down on ANY initial hand
  • Player may double down after splitting
  • Player may split to up to 4 total hands
  • Player may only split Aces once
  • Only one additional card can be drawn on split Aces
  • 21 on split Aces does not count as Blackjack
  • Players may not split unmatched 10s (i.e. 10-J, J-K, Q-K)

How To Play Vegas Strip Blackjack

If you haven’t played blackjack before then Vegas Strip is as easy to learn as any other version. However, for more experienced players who are used to other variations, there are one or two things to be aware of.

The main thing that catches players out is that you’re not allowed to split unlike 10s. Now obviously, splitting 10s is not something you’re going to do too often if you’re following basic strategy, but some players prefer to play fast and loose, so this rule is likely to put a stop to that.

When playing Vegas Strip Blackjack online or on your mobile device, you’ll find that most casino software allows you to play the game on multi-hand tables. This gives the opportunity to play between 1 and 5 hands simultaneously.

As with any mobile blackjack variation, remember to tilt your phone into landscape mode for best results. The mobile games are all designed to be used that way so they tend to look very weird in portrait.

Vegas Strip Blackjack Strategy

Standard basic strategy doesn’t give an optimal return when playing this version of Blackjack. But with a few small tweaks, we can come up with a specific Vegas Strip Blackjack strategy which takes account of the rule changes and gives us the best possible returns on this game.

Here are the strategy tables you’ll need.

Who Should Play Vegas Strip Blackjack?

Online Vegas Strip Blackjack is essentially the same game you’ll find in Caesar’s Palace, The Bellagio, MGM Grand, Venetian, New York New York or any of the famous casinos on Las Vegas Blvd.

If you’ve played in any of these locations before, or if you’re planning a trip to Vegas in the near future, then this version will be of interest. You can either practice or reminisce with a few games online or on mobile.

In terms of gameplay, there are pros and cons. The dealer peeking for Blackjack, the ability to double any hand, Blackjack paying 3/2 and the option to double after splitting are all good from the player’s point of view.

However, the fact that you only get one card on split Aces, and can’t get Blackjack on them, are less good.

Overall, I personally like this version. I’ve had a lot of success playing in the brick-and-mortar casinos on the Vegas Strip, so I always enjoy playing the same rules on my mobile.

I’d certainly recommend trying a few hands in free-play mode at any of the casinos I listed above, and if it works for you, you can go ahead and play for real money.
