Atlantic City Blackjack is usually played with a fixed 8 decks, and both the player and dealer are both dealt two cards initially.

There are one or two differences between Atlantic City and Classic Blackjack, most notably the rules around splitting unmatched 10s, and re-splits.

How To Play Atlantic City Blackjack

The gameplay works exactly as you’d expect if you have learned to play Blackjack before.

Most online versions of Atlantic City Blackjack are multi-hand, so you will get the option of playing between 1 and 5 hands simultaneously. All hands are played against the dealer, not each other.

Given that you have the option to split and re-split, and also to double after split, it’s not uncommon to have a lot of chips on the table at one time if playing multiple hands.

After the initial cards are dealt, you will be offered insurance if the dealer is showing an Ace.

The dealer will peek for blackjack (if showing an Ace or 10) before any further cards are dealt.

Generally, these are very player friendly rules and therefore, with the help of basic strategy, you stand a good chance of getting a good return in this game.

Atlantic City Blackjack Strategy

There are one or two small deviations from standard basic strategy here, to take account of the specific rules of Atlantic City Blackjack.

Use the following tables if you’re playing online (or on your mobile). But if you’re playing at a brick and mortar casino and just going from memory, then don’t worry. The Atlantic City Blackjack strategy changes are minor and should not impact your RTP too much.

Who Should Play Atlantic City Blackjack?

Atlantic City Blackjack is a variation which would suit anyone looking for a game with a player friendly ruleset.

With re-splits allowed and doubles on any cards, it’s possible to load the table in your favour when the dealer shows a weak up card. What’s more, using surrender at the right time can reduce your losses on a hand which favours the dealer.

This is a game you can get ahead in, and if you learn to quit while ahead, you definitely have a realistic opportunity to make a profit.

Remember though that this is gambling, and the odds still (slightly) favour the house, so never bet more than you can afford.

You won’t get the big prizes found in some of the side game variations such as Suit Em Up, but you will get a very high RTP and low volatility, especially if you use the strategy tables correctly.

The one quirk you’ll need to get used to is that you can’t split unmatched ten value cards (eg QK, K10, 10J etc). But surely you weren’t planning to split tens anyway were you? Not in an online game when the deck is re-shuffled before each deal!

Overall, this is a good version to play and well worth trying if you haven’t played before.
