Two online banks have updated their apps to include functions designed to help combat gambling addiction, according to a report today from the BBC.
Monzo and Starling, two mobile only banks, have both included the option which allows customers to restrict their accounts from processing any online betting transactions. The aim is to allow problem gamblers to activate this feature, which will automatically prevent them from depositing any money at high street bookmakers or any online betting website.
Based on the its success so far, the larger high street banks are now being urged to follow suit.
A Welcome Move
The Royal College of Psychiatrists have welcomed the move, and are asking HSBC, RBS, Lloyds and Barclays to implement a similar solution. The relative size of these institutions means it would therefore be made available to far more users.
