Banking Apps To Help Gambling Addicts

banking app

Two online banks have updated their apps to include functions designed to help combat gambling addiction, according to a report today from the BBC.

Monzo and Starling, two mobile only banks, have both included the option which allows customers to restrict their accounts from processing any online betting transactions. The aim is to allow problem gamblers to activate this feature, which will automatically prevent them from depositing any money at high street bookmakers or any online betting website.

Based on the its success so far, the larger high street banks are now being urged to follow suit.

A Welcome Move

The Royal College of Psychiatrists have welcomed the move, and are asking HSBC, RBS, Lloyds and Barclays to implement a similar solution. The relative size of these institutions means it would therefore be made available to far more users.

“If you are unable to access funds, this type of gambling block can save people’s homes and their families.”

Dr Henrietta Bowden-Jones, Royal College of Psychiatrists

It is clear from the way it has been used so far that the app is making a real difference to people’s lives.

Apps To Allow Betting And Apps To Prevent It

Obviously the team at Mobile Betting Site are fans of betting, however we strongly believe that it should only be enjoyed responsibly. Anyone who develops a problem should seek help, and that help should be freely and readily available in a variety of forms.

While technology is being used to enhance the enjoyment of gambling, via the casino and sports betting apps we recommend, it should also be used to provide any assistance possible to those who have a problem.

Moves such as this take us a step closer to a scenario where those who want to bet can do so in a fun and responsible manner, whereas those who have a problem can be protected before it spirals out of control. This is a solution that works for everyone, and we very much hope that the major banks will act upon the recommendations in the near future.

We will of course keep you up to date with any future developments.
